Where Journeys Lead Me Now

New destinations beckon from my screen,

revealing worlds and wonders yet unseen.

Then something long remembered reappears,

and carries me across the miles and years.

Far shores and endless winding roads unfold,

scenes once explored I suddenly behold.

They bring each cherished second back to mind,

and the present slowly fades far behind.

And there you are, beside me once again,

your sparkling eyes, as beautiful as then.

Your radiant smile always shining through,

and for a moment, I am there with you.

A sunset settles softly on the sea,

we watch its final glow expectantly.

At last, our rare emerald flash appears,

we share the sight we’d sought throughout the years.

Their travels carry them to somewhere new,

while mine returns to days I spent with you.

And when I journey back, it all seems clear,

the joy we shared still meets me warmly here.

About This Poem

I often enjoy watching travel videos of places around the world, including many destinations that I have visited before. Sometimes, quite unexpectedly, a familiar place or scene will carry me back across the miles and years to a very special memory. That experience became the inspiration for Where Journeys Lead Me Now.

For years, we watched sunsets at sea hoping to catch the elusive “green flash,” a rare phenomenon that can sometimes appear for only a moment just as the sun disappears below the horizon. On our last cruise together, we finally saw one. It was a beautiful sight we had waited years to share.
