As Close As Close Can Be
I love your expectant gaze
into my gleaming eyes
as you follow my every move.
Instantly hope increases
as love’s prospects soar,
and our desirous hearts approve.
Magnetically attracted and eagerly engaged,
our bodies committed,
wanting to occupy
the same cozy space.
We’re riveted together,
so focused and attentive,
thoroughly absorbed in
one unending sweet embrace.
Playful ambitious lips and my tenacious hands
enthralled by your body’s heat,
completely devoted
to our love’s delight.
Hold me, just hold me close,
as close as close can be,
until we awaken elatedly
at early morning’s light.

Beth, Thanks for sharing about the stanza placement and structure on this one – I spent quite a while experimenting (constructing and deconstructing) with the number of lines in each stanza and the flow on this poem. I know I probably have a lot to learn about the more formal technical aspects of our craft. I finally settled on this approach and I am very happy with the flow and the way it breaks from line to line. I appreciate your critique so much!

Claudia, Yes the painting is most outstanding! I sometimes worry about the images/photos/paintings that I choose might outshine my poetry! I didn’t think it would be this tough to pair up meaningful and complementary artwork with my poems. I must say though, that it has been a very satisfying adventure so far. So happy that you enjoyed it!
